The Crowdsourced 2011 NHL Awards

I described the Crowdsourced 2011 NHL Awards here, but here's the skinny:

I submit that if the Professional Hockey Writers don't want to do it, then the ticket-buying public should.

And we did.  With no further ado, here are the winners of the Crowdsourced 2011 NHL Awards...




"...awarded annually to the National Hockey League forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game..."

Nominees: Ryan Callahan (NY Rangers), Pavel Datsyuk (Detroit), Michael Grabner (NY Islanders), Nathan Horton (Boston)

Winner: Ryan Kesler (Vancouver)




"...presented each year to the National Hockey League 'player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability'..."

Nominees: Pavel Datsyuk (Detroit), Jason Pominville (Buffalo)

Winner: Martin St. Louis (Tampa Bay)




"...[awarded] to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League."

Nominees: Logan Couture (San Jose), Cam Fowler (Carolina), Michael Grabner (NY Islanders), P.K. Subban (Montreal)

Winner: Jeff Skinner (Carolina)




"...[awarded to the] defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position..."

Nominees: Dan Boyle (San Jose), Zdeno Chara (Boston), Nick Lidstrom (Detroit)

Winner: Shea Weber (Nashville)




"...awarded annually to the National Hockey League's goaltender who is 'adjudged to be the best at this position'..."

Nominees: Henrik Lundqvist (NY Rangers), Roberto Luongo (Vancouver), Carey Price (Montreal), Pekka Rinne (Nashville), Cam Ward (Carolina)

Winner: Tim Thomas (Boston)




"...[awarded to the] 'player adjudged most valuable to his team' in the National Hockey League..."

Nominees: Alexander Ovechkin (Washington), Corey Perry (Anaheim), Brad Richards (Dallas), Jonathan Toews (Chicago)

Winner: Daniel Sedin (Vancouver)



Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners!  But most importantly, thank you to everyone who took the time to offer nominations and vote.  This couldn't have happened without you!
