Bobby Lu, Bobby Loooooooo!

Ian Clark lectures the goalies in training camp, 2011
Jack Johnson Scores to win it in overtime!!  JMFJ coming through for team USA!  USA!  USA! USA! Nice overtime goal, Jack running the point on the power play.

But I digress.

Tis the time of year for fruitless speculation, as there are still other teams playing, and our players are over representing their country at the worlds.  So, without further ado, we go to random discussion about the goal tender position, a position in dire need of an upgrade for the 2012-13 season.

I could put some serious thought into this, but Jeff Little, over at 10 Minute Misconduct has already done so with this post on the goalie position.  Its not like I have anything to add, other than ...

Roberto Luongo, Ryan Kessler and Burrows for Nash, Mason (salary dump) and Umberger.

What do you think?  How would you equalize this deal?  Luongo has 10 years left on a hefty contract, Nash and Umberger is overpaying for Kessler and Burrows, but we're giving them Mason.  See Jeff's commentary on Luongo for a better feel for this deal.

GO JACKETS!!!

  1. I would do that deal in a second. Since this team has never been in the top half of scoring even with Nash, an upgrade in goal tending with the first ever NHL defense this club has ever seen is a step in the right direction.

On top of that, even without the Sedins, it would not be unexpected that burrows and Kesler put up a 45/55/100, which is not far off what Nash/Umberger have done in years past.

Further more, even though it is a 10 year deal with Luongo, the last 3 years are 1 million a year, with the expectation that he retires. Even if he doesn't and handcuffs the team in terms of salary cap, at least the franchise isnt paying him those terms.

  2. Kesler and Burrows are core guys for Vancouver, and they just won the President's Trophy, so I don't think they are gonna make this drastic of a change. They will fire Vigneault and trade Luongo, but I don't see why they would get rid of two fan-favorite core guys as well.
