CBJ love from The Hockey News

I received my copy of The Hockey News' "Future Watch" special issue in the mail.  It's the issue where they highlight the top prospects in the NHL (and in each team's respective systems).  Guess what I saw on the cover?

Does the font for "Future Watch" and the litte red "2011" in the middle look familiar to you, Columbus Blue Jackets fan?  They sure look like the CBJ jersey fonts to me...

Then, on the table of contents page, lookie here...

Yup, that's our guy (and Dark Blue Toddler's BFF)!  Nice photo, but I think my treatment is better...

By the way, the "Future Watch" suggests the following rankings for Columbus' prospects:

  1. Ryan Johansen (2nd overall in the NHL)
  2. Nikita Filatov (29th overall)
  3. John Moore (35th overall)
  4. Matt Calvert
  5. Tom Sestito
  6. David Savard
  7. Will Weber
  8. Cody Goloubef
  9. Cam Atkinson
  10. Tomas Kubalik
Clearly, this is not a perfect list.  Calvert's been a sparkplug in the regular CBJ lineup for some time now, and Sestito was traded to Philadelphia.  Still, it's interesting to see what folks think about our prospects.

On that front, THN suggests that "As many as seven on this 10-player list are earmarked to be NHL regulars in 2011-12.  That's either a condemnation of the current club's talent level, or a tribute to the Jackets' recent draft history."  Seven prospects on the big club next season?  Oh my.  That's probably a stretch, but even half of that number, combined with some free agent grabs, suggests a healthy roster turnover in the offseason.

  2. Good point, @cbjprospects! And keep up the good work! No one tracks the Blue Jackets' prospects like you do.
