Shea Weber's Petticoats

Dirty, Dirty, Dirty play by Shea Weber at the end of the game against the CBJ and Nashville tonight.  The league needs to intervene.  Otherwise, its time to get Jody at the trade deadline, because we will need to police this.

Weber gets checked when he is holding the puck in the waning seconds of a game we are trailing, by RJ Umberger.  Unfortunately, Weber cracks his face on the dasher as he goes down.  Umberger stays by the fallen player.  No penalty is called.

But no, we have soiled Mr. Weber's petticoats.  In spite of the fact that he is bleeding profusely, he refuses to leave the ice so he can cross check Fedor Tyutin twice, then sucker punch him.  Dirty play Weber.  Dirty play.  You won the freakin' game.  Are your petticoats that sensitive?  The linesman told him to leave the ice at the face off, and he refused.  He should sit for more than one game, because now its about Shea Weber's petticoats, and not the game.

You're a good player Weber.  Your team won the game.  Recall that Hedja took one in the face, and had the class to leave the ice and get stitched up, and didn't miss a shift.  But no, it's all about you being mad.  And that's all that counts Weber.  And that's why you and your dirty team are going to fold down the stretch.  Enjoy the golf in April Weber.  Because its too much about you for you to be a good team player.

The offseason is a good time to launder your petticoats.  Bush league Weber.  Real bush league.

Rant complete.

  1. I still can't believe the refs allowed him to play out the game, considering the rulebook clearly states that players who have sustained an injury that includes blood, they must leave the playing surface.

Horrible, horrible job by the refs, and yeah, lost a LOT of respect for a guy I really enjoyed watching play prior to today. Rant well deserved.

  2. Weber flies off the handle and the whole team is dirty? Cry some more you big whiner.

  3. I'm sorry, I can't read that article....all I hear is the sound of a baby crying

  4. Guess you deny Weber was BOARDED on that play by Umberger? What a HOMER rant this is by you.

Speaking of playing golf in April, CBJ has done that EVERY season of their existence, minus ONE, when they were swept.

Stay in your lane and talk about things you know something about; hockey isn't one of them.

  5. Preds fan here. I found Weber rage misplaced, but now I see CBJ fans yelling as if Weber actually Bertuzzi'd someone. Come on. He was pissed off for getting his face planted into the boards by Umberger, how not intended that may have been by Umberger.

Hockey is a rough sport. While I wouldn't be surprised by a suspension/fine, please refrain from insulting our fan base, city and team. (directed at other posts too)

And if it makes you feel better, look up videos of Backstrom boarding Goc. Atlanta player cutting open Weber's face or Avery high-sticking Franson (I believe) in the throat. All without penalties or consequences.

  6. Wahwahwah. Shea Weber is better than anyone on the Blue Jackets, so he must be playing dirty. Boohoohoo.

  7. While I will concede but not agree that the punch was unnecessary...didn't the jackets call a to before the dandruff meaning weber could stay on? Cause I'm pretty sure that's what happened...he'll get a game, but all this "the ref said to go off and he wouldn't" stuff is garbage...why would they continue they game if he was required to leave? Was he wearing a disguise? Did they just decide to let him have his way? neither seems realistic

  8. Obviously Nashville is dripping with class.

I didn't see it, but in a game ultimately won by a obviously wrong call the league needs to "make-up" for this and slam Weber.

Tough loss but there's still hope!

    ReplyDelete
  9. no there's not, there's no hope.

  10. CBJ fan, Weber should not have been allowed on the play because he was still bleeding (See NHL excerpt from rule book below).

Did he get boarded by Umberger, yes. Should it have been a penalty, yes. Refers are not and were not perfect. Punch Tyutin after picking up the two points is classless. He should receive a multi-game suspension.

Great hockey game, congrats on the win Nashville. But, Shea Weber, have some class.

8.3 Blood – A player who is bleeding or who has visible blood on his equipment or body shall be ruled off the ice at the next stoppage of play. Such player shall not be permitted to return to play until the bleeding has been stopped and the cut or abrasion covered (if necessary). It is required that any affected equipment and/or uniform be properly decontaminated or exchanged.

  11. It's okay disgruntled Nashville fans. I'd be pissed off if I realized the referees just won me a game too.

  12. Gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed in this post. I would have thought you were above this. That play had nothing to do with the outcome of this game and you know it. Good grief.

Your team was the better team last Tuesday, but not today. Deal with it.

  13. hey guys, what do they know about hockey in C-Bus? Guess not as much as they know about crying

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am a CBJ fan, and yeah sure it was a little out of line at the end of the game, but WHO CARES? It's and L either way.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Let the NHL deal with Weber, but ClevelandHockey needs to release that the refs didn't give us anything. In fact, the case could be made they've been against us for the last 5 games or so. Lopsided penalties in all of them and CBJ had 5 PPs vs our 2 this game. So blame your team for the loss, because the refs did what they could to help.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm a Preds fan, and considering that Umberger BOARDED Weber, he has every right to argue. However, Shea was arguing that the ref should've called a penalty, which he should have. And your comment about us not making the playoffs: which of the two teams has been to the playoffs? The Preds. CBJ went but got swept so that counts for nothing. I'll make sure to check back in with you once we get into the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  17. CBJ fan here, we lost let's just get over it. Weber retaliated big deal let's play hockey and quit crying.

    ReplyDelete
  18. On a side note...what was with the 400 lb Columbus fan wearing the Jason mask? Is it the BJ's version of the Jets (just end the season) paper bag over the face??

    ReplyDelete
  19. My post, my call. Nah, its not whining. If that's how you see it, read better. N-burg won the game after we failed to score on a power play, and our goalie gave up a huge rebound and your guy potted the rebound. That has nothing to do with the post.

Could boarding have been called? Sure. Maybe. Weber had the puck. He went down. RJ didn't hit the boards, so how could it be called? Dude had the puck. Anything goes. Unfortunate that he hit his face on the dasher. And that's where it should end.

Get off the ice, get taken care of, take your two points home, and good on you.

But that's not what Weber decided. And that's why you won't make the playoffs, cause he won't put the teams good before himself.

I am of the opinion that the NHL should sit him for his actions. Others will disagree. The guy who hit Weber wasn't even on the ice when he ignored the linesman, started cross checking and sucker punching. So this is all about Weber. Not about your team. Weber's the captain. Nice leadership.

I credit the Nashburg organization with making some good moves to try to get to the playoffs. Until Weber grows up, it ain't happenin'.

I've got a lot of grudging respect for Barry. He's earned it. I have no respect for Weber, even if he can shoot a puck through the net.
    'nuff said.

  20. I'll reply to AJ -

I back up Gallos. He's a very bright guy and a passionate CBJ fan. And, believe it or not, there are a whole lot of CBJ fans who believe that our boys got jobbed on that game. Surely the frustration of the War Room miscall boiled over in the comments and thoughts of many CBJ fans, including Gallos.

I have given Gallos a green light to write about anything and everything he wants to write on two conditions: 1) It's at least tangentially related to the Columbus Blue Jackets and 2) It is written in a manner where he would not be embarrassed to have his grandmother read it. He meets both criteria with this blog post, so it stays.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jackets fan here who is going to have to wholeheartedly disagree. I'd take Shea Weber on my team anyday. This is hockey. Get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Gallos, maybe we should call you Mr. Bias because you hsve absolutely no idea what you're talking about. CBJ called a timeout, therefore, Weber was allowed to play. What's a timeout, you ask? It's a stoppage of play. Look at the rule book Mr. Bias. You're saying that you wouldn't want your player to argue with the ref after he got boarded and no call was made?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why is Weber better than anyone on your team? Because his shot can kill. You're little defensemen wish they were half as good as Weber

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow. I can't wait until the end of the season when the Nashville Chris Hansens don't make the playoffs and they all-

    Well, bigger a**holes.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Enjoy golfing in April? Really? Start throwing stuff at Nashville once Columbus actually wins one playoff game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. " and they all-
    Well, bigger a**holes."

Try making sense, why dont ya?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Whoever wrote this blog is a real idiot. Weber was boarded. Despite your obvious stupidity and lack of hockey knowledge, I can only assume you would be angry if I rammed your minuscule melon into a wall. Umberger was wise to run and hide behind the linesman.

    ReplyDelete
  28. DBJ: I need to respond to you and apologize to for not paying attention to the byline. I do feel better knowing that it wasn't you who wrote the post, whether you agree with it or not.

Gallos is entitled to his opinion, and you to your willingness to allow him to express it in your space. However I'm sure I'm not the only one who read this and assumed it was you riding the sour grapes train here.

The fact of the matter is, there is no such thing as a perfectly called game, and every team has at least some reason to believe they got 'jobbed' multiple times per season. However I've never heard of a fan's outcry ever changing the outcome of a game. The players understand this, why can't we fans?

Best of luck to both teams as we continue down the stretch. As you so reasonably put it last week, "may the better team win." Let's all move on, lace up the skates and win the next one.

Any other sentiment is nothing more than useless noise.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Game was over, Umberger was off the ice and Weber started swinging at anything in a CBJ sweater, consequences be damned. Classless and worthy of a suspension. Let him see that there are consequences for flying off the handle and watch from the press box as his team slides below the line without his admittedly great skill set.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jackets fan here...
I completely, absolutely disagree with this post. Please don't consider all BJ fans to be this naive.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bottom line. The last 2, we have relied on a rook to score. I hate Nashville as much as the next guy, and probably more, I hated the city as the Nashville Knights, but to blame this loss on the actions with 5 secs to go is a little misplaced. Our D was shoody in the 2nd and 3rd at best. A fluke goal of Hejdas face and we are in trouble. Its these things that are killing us. Toronto didnt help with what was a CLEAR GOAL, but to be 5 on 3 and miss an open net (lookin at you Voracek), and to allow a PK in the 3rd seeing the server come out of the box, step in to the zone and score? Well, thats just not going to get it done. Hate you Nashville, Hate you Toronto, but we didnt help ourselves today.

    ReplyDelete
  32. CBJ fans, stop crying. We should focus on our next game. I'll admit, Umberger deserved a penalty, no doubt. And Weber's play in the end was nothing more than two players battling for position. Weber did seem a little rough, but nothing deserving of a penalty. Tyutin came after Weber after the horn, so Weber has every right to defend himself. If Tyutin had not been going after Weber, perhaps Weber would get a fine and/or suspension

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is actually sad. Columbus and Nashville have been the whipping post of the Western Conference for years. Now that both teams are tough victories, the two teams can't acknowledge they are equals. Sure, Columbus has scored 9 more goals than Nashville and the Preds have allowed 30 less goals than Jackets; only 1 victory and 4 points separates the two teams.

Hockey is a game of emotions. Sure, Weber was out of line for not leaving the ice, but the refs, who never had control of this game, failed the fans and the league. I don't hear anyone talking about the headshot to Erat or the dogpile on Fisher.

There was some good hockey played today. When was the last time both teams left the ice thinking they were "jobbed"? Being a Nashville fan, I am very familiar with not getting the calls we deserve, but we play through them. The refs are calling "playoff-style" games 2 months early this year, which does not boad well for either Nashville or Columbus.

Still 6 points between 5 and 12. It's going to be crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  34. There was quite a bit of pushing and shoving in that game, I'm pretty surprised that there has been so much exception to the end game actions. When a player runs another player into the boards, that's boarding. I will, however, give huge credit to Umb for sticking around and checking on him.

It wasn't a good call by Weber, but he didn't snack on any babies either. This whole "I hate him forever" foot stamping is childish. If he gets a game for it, I won't argue, but he's anything but a dirty player, just a pissed off one.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ummmm how has Nashville been the whipping post of the Western Conference for years??

  37. um...Jackets fan here. You're making us look bad. Yes, Weber's play was dirty. But it was a tough game, both sides were physical, and he got out of hand at the end. Happens all the time in great hockey games. A suspension?

His punch was a cheap shit. It was no different than the one the guy from the Coyotes gave to Jared Boll the other night. No suspension needed, just tough hockey and we'll remember it next time we play and get him back.

  40. I love when the Jackets come to Nashville and we're on a losing streak, it always means that streak is ending.

Also, I can't say I've ever seen the words classy applied to someone who's left the ice to get stitched up. The 29 other fanbases in the NHL would probably use the words gritty and tough to describe a guy who stays on the ice in crunch time when he's needing stitches, but in the words of the immortal Ron Burgandy, "stay classy" Columbus!

    ReplyDelete
  41. As a preds fan, this is entertaining. I am slightly embarrassed that there are other Smashville fans making comments to this. Just let other teams fans talk. Obviously noone is going to change their minds here haha.

Why am I or any other Preds fan even on this site? I apologize. Just thought this was funny

  42. The whole game had punches and face washing going on after every play that ended up near the net. Picking out this one incident makes it sound like you caught the end of the game because this was all game long. Weber was mad because he got boarded and there was no call(lots of no calls in this one). Anybody see him yelling at the ref? Scary. So he took matters into his own hands so to speak. It's hockey. Get over it!!

Also, a timeout was called after Weber had his face bloodied so it was legal for him to return to the ice. The linesman was trying to stop Weber from killing the ref that he was burning holes through.

  45. Gallos,

You're just wrong. Anything does not go when you have the puck. A player can be boarded, charged, elbowed, cross checked, tripped, and slashed all while possessing the puck and it's a penalty. Get a grip then come back...weak sauce Umberger cowered once Weber got to his feet. He didn't want any piece of our Captain!!! If anything, that boarding hit by Umberger was Busch League. He was frustrated and you are that we've beaten your weak team 16 times in a row at our place. Y'all come back now. Ya hear?

    Peace!

  48. I'm pretty sure coming onto a team's blog just to attack the team and their fanbase is the exact opposite of class, bro.

    ReplyDelete
  49. TheClevelandHockey - You admitted you did not even see the game. Weber's actions had zero outcome on the game, it happened with 0 time left on the lock. So saying "the refs won the preds the game" is just a joke and anyone who watched the game knows that.

Sure it got a little out of control at the end, but that had no outcome on anything. Watch the game first then comment on what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I didn't see the last 10 minutes. I saw the Toronto Joke Room's f*** up, that's for sure.

And it's effect is what's important. When there was the scrum in C-Bus it was to show the Predators weren't done yet. Here, it was just because Weber was just being a d*ck

    ReplyDelete
  51. Blame it on who ever you want, CBJ can't win in Nashville. If Toronto had made the call differently, the outcome would still be the same.

Just head on down to the local country club and schedule your tee times.

  54. good lord this post is so full of BS it pains me to look at it. Columbus..you lost...DEAL WITH IT. I'm not sure if people in Ohio are aware of this, but the NHL decides who wins on who has the most goals. Maybe the BJ's should try that strategy sometime. How anyone could ever make this argument when Jared F***ing Boll is on their team is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well, first Weber was obviously boarded. You can argue whether it was one of those unfortunate it happened things or a dangerous play, but if you deny the boarding, you're just not being honest.

Since it was right in front of me I think I had a pretty good view. I think Umberger played it dangerously and didn't intend too, realized it as soon as it happened. Doesn't change it from a penalty though.

Tyutin? Poor, poor BJs? BJs mauled Preds in front of the net all night and now you wanna' whine about the cross-check? This is the team that Skated Shelley and still skates Boll? You wanna' whine about a cross-check?

Couple years ago I was at a game and Boll clotheslined Tootoo. BJs think that's fine, right? Well, by definition, it's a penalty. Actually, probably intent to injure. Right in front of the guy wearing the orange arm-band. No call at all.

As for the Weber punch, I didn't see it live, saw it on replay this AM. Tyutin got up and it looks like he tried to take a swing at Weber and Weber took him out first. I wanna' see the replay again myself.

BJs got 6 PPs to 3 for the Preds - so don't think the refs were exactly calling them in favor of Preds, so all that whining is pretty laughable, just like BJs fans whining about someone taking liberties - good grief, that's a trademark of BJs teams for years - see Shelley and Boll.

    ReplyDelete
  56. None of this occurs if Umberger doesn't feel the need to board a player with 3 seconds left in a game, intentional, unintentional or otherwise.

I'd say he was feeling a little frustrated, mere seconds from a loss....After the hit, from behind, with seconds left, it appears he was "sorry" and stood over Weber. Uh, its a little late at that point.

Don't condone Webers actions...but hey,if you insist calling weber dirty, then how do you justify a boarding incident in a game that was essentially over? Talk about no class.

And please BJ fans, enough with the golf jokes. I can understand why you use them, you talk about what you know.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Bunch of whiners just like the announcing crew. Weber took a shot and then he gave one. Bring back Jody Shelley? He was a loser also. Bring him back good idea. If you the BJ's don't like it, take care of it on the ice. Your coach should have known and sent out the right thugs...but he did not.
